Who is Your “Mankind?”

How to Pray for Your Loved Ones this Christmas

by Vera Schmitz

“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.” — John 1:4

Dear Dwell Community,

This Christmas, as we’ve focused on Jesus—the life and light of all mankind—there are a few specific “mankinds” that come to mind—people we pray will experience all the life and light of Jesus today and in the coming year.

Our children. Lord, may each tiny seed be planted for you and find rich soil to grow deep roots and bear much fruit.

Our friends and family members who don't follow Jesus. Lord, give them a hunger in their souls for something more this year, and give us words to share your satisfying truth.

Our suffering loved ones. Jesus, may your light shine brightly in and around them as they wait for the dark night to be over.

Our young adult loved ones. Lord, would you set their path toward you as they embark on their first leg of "adulthood."

Our aging loved ones. We pray that they will finish their journey strong and win the crown of life.

These are just a few of our “mankinds”—the people we know and love and pray for, the people we long to know the life and light of Jesus more and more.

And then there’s you. This Christmas Eve we pray for you. We pray that you will experience the very real presence of Jesus. We pray that his light will shine even in the darkest places, giving you hope and courage and comfort and joy and most of all, life!

Merry Christmas from the bottom of our hearts,

Vera, Natalie, & the Dwell Differently Team
