when my heart is adrift, i can call on jesus.
we must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
HEBREWS 2:1
How about THIS MONTH’S DESIGN?!?! Our Design Manager, Ruthie, took the lead on this one and it is…so, so good. It reminds me of a Shel Silverstein piece of art. Cartoonish drawings juxtaposed with a very serious warning—to not drift away. It’s actually a rather convicting image for me.
And here’s why. When I am drifting, here is what it looks like:
I joke about binge watching a show on Netflix.
I casually talk about missing church.
I push off getting back into a rhythm of regularly reading my Bible.
I laugh as I speak about needing to numb out.
The image of this verse depicts to me what my heart looks like when it’s drifting: an attitude, mindset, and heart that is casual and even playful or lighthearted about not living what I’ve heard in God's truth.

Have you been there?
Are you there right now? Please know that this is in no way me passing judgment on anyone. Believe me, I’ve done my fair share of drifting out into the waters these last few years. So, let me share with you what I've found. When I finally acknowledge where I am, the next thing that is heaped onto my wayward heart is shame for having drifted away. But before you find yourself there, feeling guilty and less than, remember this: You are only ever as far away as saying the name “Jesus.”
Jesus. Let us be as near to you now as we were when we first came to know and love you. Help us remember our first love. Guide our hearts back to you. Amen.
And if you’ve never known the peace that comes with being anchored to Jesus, shoot us an email. We’d love to hear from you.
