What are you trusting in?

Even though we might say that we trust God, in reality we often put our trust in something or someone else. We may not realize it, but the thing that we are trusting is the thing we obsess about, the thing we just know would make us happy, or secure, or free to do as we want. It’s the one thing that would wreck us if we lost it. Whatever (or whomever) it is, I tell you, it cannot do all that you ask of it. It cannot fulfill you, cannot make you complete, cannot give you lasting purpose. No thing or person can.

But, God.

Our loving God made each of us with deep longings for love, purpose, security, joy, all of it. And, he alone is loving enough, constant enough, powerful, eternal, and compassionate enough to deliver. In fact, he’s more than enough. So, daily give up your trust in other things and trust in him. He alone can bear the burden of all of your hopes, and he will never fail you.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
