Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8
For those of you who grew up in church, you already know this. But, for all of you “heathens” (like myself) who didn’t, I have a secret for you: Jesus is always the right answer. If you are in Sunday School and there is a lollipop on the line, but you weren’t paying close attention, there’s a good likelihood that if you answer, “Jesus”, you’re gonna get that lollipop. Why does it work? Well, it’s actually kind of true. Even for us grown ups.
Now why do I say all of that? Because, Jesus IS actually all of “things” that this verse is asking us to dwell on. Jesus is true. Jesus is noble. He is right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and just plain praiseworthy. So, let’s spend some time today meditating on him. Jesus tells us in John 14:6 that he is THE truth. He is noble, meaning that he is worthy of our respect. His life was altogether beautiful - even non-believers regard him as an amazing person, marked by lovely deeds and words. In all of these ways and others, he is the fulfillment of this verse.
