Perfect Peace, Known
A Poem by Natalie Abbott

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” — Isaiah 26:3

You.
Promise peace,
Purchased peace,
Lavish peace.
In you, I have peace.

But my heart will not.

It.
Frets, but boasts still,
Devours, though it’s ill,
Insatiable pit.
Ever deceiving, ever deceived.

Still I obey.

I.
Trust and yet tremble,
Groping, I stumble,
Headless and hurling.
Ever consuming, ever consumed.

‘Til you pick me up.

Again.
Pulling me in,
With mercy and peace,
Promised and purchased.
Perfect peace.

I fall to my knees.
