The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.
- Isaiah 40:8
I recently had a weekend with nothing on the calendar, and it was glorious.
No showers, parties, events, or appointments. Just an open weekend, and the chance to be home, get stuff done, and relax a bit! I made plans in my mind that I would check off a few things on my to-do list, and also spend some time diving into God’s Word and absorbing what Scripture might have for me.
By the end of the weekend, I was looking back on how I had spent my time and realized so much of it had been wasted. I hadn’t studied scripture at all, but instead had spent way too much time on Instagram and Netflix.
Has this happened to you before?
This passage in Isaiah is one of my favorite in all of scripture because it reminds me of the significance of God’s word. Did you see that second part of the passage? “…the word of our God endures forever.” Wow! Engaging with scripture is one way we can spend our time that will have lasting significance, because investing time in scripture is investing time in something that is eternal rather than temporary.
The Bible is an amazing gift to us as believers. God’s inspired, living Word! Investing our time in Scripture – knowing it, absorbing it and memorizing it, will have an impact on our lives, and hopefully the lives of those we encounter as we share His good news with others. There is no better way we can spend our time than meditating on His Word. How do you engage with the Bible? I hope that as you memorize this month's verse, it will serve as a reminder of the enduring power of God’s Word.
