May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.
2 Thessalonians 3:5
There are so many things vying for our hearts attention and affection. Some things that compete for our heart are like poison: scrolling our photos on social media for comments and “likes”, longing for validation or attention from unhealthy relationships, or prideful professional ambitions. Some things fighting for our attention are like medicine to our heart- beautiful things like our families, friends, hobbies, or our communities. Regardless, good or bad, our heart is easily swayed and directed away from the BEST thing: God.
The natural thing to feel when we think about this is conviction, which is good. And our response is typically to try harder… do more… do better... get our hearts pointed in the right dircetion! But look at our verse! There is promise in what GOD can do, not in what WE can do! It is the Lord who directs our heart into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
Our job then? Pray this prayer for ourselves: Lord, direct my heart into your love and Jesus’ perseverance.
