The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.
-John 1:5
A light in the heavens.
A baby in a manger. This is the eve of our Savior’s birth. And, I am reminded of the song, Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus. Written some two hundred years ago, this Christmas hymn still whispers of the hope of Jesus, saying:
Come, Thou long-expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us; Let us find our rest in Thee.
Two hundred or two thousand years ago, we still long for the same thing. We long for a savior to set us free. We long to be released from our fears and all of our wrongs. We long for rest. We are weary and haggard. Jesus offers us his light, his release, his rest. Let’s grab hold of it, even now.
Are you trusting Jesus for freedom, for courage, for forgiveness, and rest?
